Before we get into the 7 essential oils for the lymphatic system, let’s talk about what this system does for you. It is an important body system that assists with carrying in nutrients and carrying out toxic wastes. Essential oils, what I call “CPR for the cells”, can help enhance movement within fluid systems such as lymph, blood, cerebral spinal fluid and urine.
Having an ebb and flow of good nutrients coming in while the toxic debris is eliminated is one crucial role of the lymphatic system. When it gets congested, stagnant and clogged up, nutrients cannot get in, and toxins cannot get out. This means, toxins will rule the body and not let nutrients in to feed and nourish your mind and gut.
Can you imagine, all of your cells and organs are being bathed in toxic sludge? This can starve, halt and impede other body functions from working, leading to other symptoms and ailments that manifest. These symptoms might start out minor, like a dull headache or neck tension. However, if you do not clean up the mess and help your body thrive, these symptoms continue to get worse, more profound and chronic. Why let this happen?
Your lymphatic system is similar to your blood and circulation system. However, the big main difference is that your blood has a pump to keep it circulating (the heart). The lymphatic system does not have a pump. Thus, if you do not move your lymph manually, you will feel stuck…physically, in your joints, swollen glands, have stagnant thoughts, sluggish memory, and have emotions that consume you and go round and round in your head, keeping you from moving forward.
Contributors to Poor Lymphatic System Function
- Lack of movement, immobility & sedentary lifestyle
- Wearing synthetic perfumes, colognes and deodorants
- Using synthetic chemicals in your skin & personal care products, laundry detergents and cleaning supplies
- High sugar diet
- Heavy metal toxicity
Some (not all) Symptoms of Sluggish Lymphatic System
- Swollen glands
- Skin Irritations
- Respiratory congestion
- Liver & gallbladder issues
- Fungal Infections
- Vision issues
Aromatherapy Benefits for the Lymphatic System
Aromatherapy is one powerful tool to help the lymphatic system work optimally and efficiently. Knowing which remedies and botanicals that can lend the biggest support, will help you choose what you need for certain health situations, and what essential oils to mix together to provide relief. Essential oils are taken up by the lymphatic system and help to relieve sluggish and stagnate lymph. The lymphatic system needs to be clear and free flowing in order for toxic debris to get out. When it’s stuck, essential oils serve as little “snowplows” to push the fluid and create movement or flow.
Inhalation therapy using essential oils via a diffuser is a great way to activate the mind and body to move. Including essential oils in a carrier oil and using as a massage oil is equally beneficial. When massaging, you want to use small circular motions towards the heart to increase circulation.
