Lemongrass essential oil has a distinct lemony-herby scent that makes you feel like you are walking in the middle of an herb garden. You can spot it anywhere, visually and sensorial. In the aromatherapy world, it is most noted to support the immune, lymphatic and circulatory systems. It is also a common oil added to insect repellents, deodorants and other personal care products. It is a refreshing, yet striking scent to penetrate the senses and elicit a response, pretty quickly.
What the Lemongrass Plant Characteristics Tell Us
Lemongrass has a powerful, sweet and herbaceous aroma, that commands the air with a sassy “attitude”. Thus, the “lemongrass personality”, a person having these traits, will have a sense of confidence, vigor and strength. If someone needs vigor and strength added to their behavior and feelings, provoking courage and motivation, then you will want to add some lemongrass into their blend.
This plant has had blade-like leaves that when you run your hand across it, can feel like it is cutting you. This tells you it has a protective nature about it, especially when it comes to feeling cut or hurt by someone. It also lends credibility to its protective nature for the immune and lymphatic system, fighting off and “slaying” the bad guys trying to come in. Hence, if your immune system needs help, add in lemongrass to the “defense team” of essential oils.
Benefits & Properties – Physical, Mental & Emotional
Lemongrass has been shown to provide a plethora of properties and benefits. It helps with gut issues, brain fog, alertness, frustration, inner strength and self-esteem. here are some other scientific benefits.
- Anti-inflammatory skin issues (source)
- Antimicrobial activity and cytotoxicity (source)
- Anxiety reducer (source)
- Shown to help dandruff (source)
- I like to combine lemongrass with myrrh and roman chamomile in avocado oil to massage on the scalp and leave on overnight.
Lemongrass Scentillect™
Lemongrass Scentillect™ can help you formulate and create special blends for you, your family, friends and clients. It has a medium to higher strength in the idle range meaning it will overpower top notes and citrus scents, but hold it’s own with middle and base notes. Because it has a strong scent, and personality, one drop can go a long way. You will want to formulate with a small amount of lemongrass and add in one drop at a time, until the desired scent, or effect. On an emotional level, it can help bring someone out of their shell, speak up for themselves, and fight or defend themselves when needed (versus being a defenseless victim).
