Self-Love: I AM important
The importance of self-love, needs to be embraced by all. After all, you ARE worth it. I think for many people, they forget to love themselves. They worry more about what other people think of them, and if they are loved (enough) by others. However, love, starts with YOU. You can’t place expectations on others to love you the way you want them to. You have to let them love you the way they know how. This is part of the giving and receiving process.
6 Pillars of Self-Nurturing Practices
What are some ways you can love and nurture yourself? You are worth it! You need to be on your to-do list, every single day. Do not cancel. Make yourself a priority!
Pillar #1: Make the commitment to love yourself enough, without restrictions and without canceling on yourself. You have to show up when your body and mind needs you. Even when it just needs some routine TLC.
Pillar #2: Schedule routine daily, quarterly and monthly “me time maintenance”. You don’t have to wait for your body or mind to “break down”. Doing simple, daily or weekly “replenisher sessions” can go a long way. You can schedule as little as 15 minutes, however ideally, you should allow for at least 30-60 minutes. Take this time to enjoy some quiet time, allowing you to think, and dream about what makes you happy. Treat yourself to a monthly massage and/or facial, tea or coffee time with friends, hot aromatic bath, afternoon walk or whatever helps you be present in the moment. Diffuse an essential oil, or essential oil blend before work (invigorate the mind), at lunch (manage stress), and/or after dinner (relaxing scents). This is a great way to nourish and support your mind and body. Something to shut down the mental chatter, nourishing positive thoughts and overall body relaxation.
- Morning Motivation Diffuser Blend: 3 drops peppermint, 3 drops lemon, 2 drops lime
- Lunchtime Stress Relief Diffuser Blend: 2 drops Lavender, 2 drops Red Mandarin, 1 drop Cinnamon, 1 drop Ylang Ylang
- After-Dinner Relaxation Diffuser Blend: 3 drops Roman Chamomile, 2 drop Ravintsara, 1 drops Frankincense
Pillar #3: Sleep well. Get to bed before 11:00pm, allowing the appropriate time for you to fall into a REM sleep (before your second adrenaline kicks in). It has been shown that a good 8-9 hours of sleep can support your body systems, cognitive faculties and brain functions, metabolism, stress level and daily productivity. Breathe in awareness, positivity and relaxation before bed to quiet mental chatter, and fill up your cells with oxygen to boost your immune system and nighttime circadian rhythm functions.
Pillar # 4: Tell yourself, often, how much you love yourself. Your mind and body believes everything you tell it, think and believe. What are you happy and blessed about? What are your accomplishments? What are your dreams? Start an affirmation board, by cutting out pictures from magazines, or creating a board on Pinterest. Bottom line…choose you. Love you. Commit to you. Do not give energy to negativity. That is what weighs you down. Think about it, when something is heavy, dark and negative, it weights your down, and pushes you back or to the bottom. When you are at the bottom, it is a much steeper climb to get back to the top of that “positivity mountain”. The rule of venting, feeling like a victim or sharing a negative thought is that you have to state 1 positive blessing for every negative thought or idea. this will void out the negativity. However, to conquer and rise above the negativity, you have to state 2 positives for every one negative. this gets you ahead. Make sense? Practice this for at least 21 days, as it typically takes this long to establish a habit. Do not let those negatives pile up. Release them, combat them with positivity and get ahead of them. Resist any negative behaviors and reinforce those positive behaviors. These will eventually become natural and instinctual.
Pillar #5: Set healthy boundaries, and do not let people invade your personal space and energy. You cannot continuously give without receiving or reciprocal self replenishment. Think of it as the Bank of You. You cannot withdraw more than you have in your energy bank. That will put you in a deficit.
Pillar #6: Surround yourself with positivity, positive influencers and positive supporters. Positive people will fuel your heart, raise that fuel gage, and lift your spirits. “Negative Nancy’s” will pull you down, zap your energy and dim your inner light.
