Perfume & Cologne Scents: Friend or Foe

February 21, 2017 1 Comment

Have you ever walked into a store, and everywhere you go, there is a stream of a strong, powerful perfume or cologne? Most of the time people make a face as the extreme odor takes their breath away. If you could see the vapor trail, it would lag behind the person wearing that perfume for miles. That can’t be good for you.  You’ve heard of second-hand smoke? Well, this is second-hand chemical exposure.  Did you know that many perfumes contain thousands of chemicals to give you that distinct scent? And where do you wear perfume?  On the neck…where lymphatic glands... Read More

February 15, 2017 Leave your thoughts

Book: JennScents Holistic Aromatherapy Comprehensive Guide, author Jennifer Pressimone. This is the first book I had purchased on aromatherapy and thought that after taking classes with Jennifer, this was the best place to start. I enjoyed the book for many reasons, firstly because the extensive information continues to help me in my growth of knowledge. I have found that I really enjoy how easy it is to use with the table of contents, the general index, and all of the charts and recipes. In my opinion this guide is a great reference book for the beginner to the more experienced... Read More

February 1, 2017 Leave your thoughts

It’s time to replace the unhealthy “smoke-break” with a healthier option – the “scent-break”. In a workplace world full of technology, deadlines, multi-tasking and daily demands…wouldn’t it be nice to have a “spa” at your desk, at any given moment?  Well you can! Just imagine, at the snap of your fingers, you can be surrounded by relaxing lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), revitalizing sweet orange (Citrus sinensis) and comforting cinnamon (Cinnamomum zylancium).   Here’s how you do it. Dedicate one of your desk drawers as your “spa-time” drawer and include these essentials: A basket or organza bag of your favorite essential oils... Read More

Most people promote “ a new year, a new you”.  But why do you have to be new?  Why can’t you be you, but better or enhanced? Whatever your resolution, be true to who you are, and where you are in your life.  Strive to be authentic, comfortable in your own skin and truly happy so you can actively pursuing your dreams.   Taking a self-evaluation is never a bad place to start.  But first, take a few minutes to reflect back on the past year to see what you loved about your year.  What challenges did you face?  Did... What is Activated Charcoal?

December 30, 2016 Leave your thoughts

Activated charcoal was a hot trend in 2016 and has been projected to continue in popularity in 2017.  It actually is not something new. It has been around for hundreds of years, used commonly by homeopathic doctors, naturopathic doctors, chiropractors, herbalist, aromatherapist and in Emergency Medicine to combat food poisoning. Other benefits include intestinal upset, overproduction of mast cells (that phlegm overload you wake up with) and liver toxicity (i.e., hangovers). Charcoal is an absorbent (sponge) and adsorbent (magnet).  Its purpose is to soak up toxic debris so the body can carry it out through normal eliminative channels. It has... Read More

Aromatherapy…Olfaction in an Instant to Promote Courage and Joy

November 28, 2016 Leave your thoughts

Aromatherapy is a unique, fun and self-fulfilling practice that brings most people joy, comfort, peace, relaxation, rejuvenation, revitalization and inspiration. A single scent can provoke an immediate response to tell your body how to respond.  You see, scent travels in through the nose, to the olfactory bulb, where scent assessment and recognition takes place.  It then continues through several other cephalic organs and processes, such as the hypothalamus, hippocampus and amygdala, as it makes its way down the vagus nerve, aka the tenth cranial nerve, and triggers the “second brain”, the gut, to take action.  This instant process of “assess... The Frankincense Personality

November 16, 2016 Leave your thoughts

When I think of essential oils, they are like people to me.  They all look and act differently, respond and are inspired differently. I’ve used phyto-therapy for almost 15 years, and every time I blend with an essential and/or carrier oil, it gives me a little more insight into its personality.  What benefits – mind, body and soul – will offer to the recipient? What role will it play in a certain custom blend? It’s like having a “people whisperer” in a bottle.  Scents will connect to people not only when they need it to elevate a positive or healthy... Harvest Time Reflection

October 12, 2016 Leave your thoughts

Harvest Time Reflection Fall is a great time to reflect, ponder and assess your accomplishments thus far in the year, that you earned from a seed you planted in the winter and spring. How have you been fulfilled? What blessings do you have to be thankful for? What can you do this harvest to satisfy the remainder of your year’s goals? Taking an inventory of accomplishments is important, especially in today’s world, so we can see the fruits of our hard labor. We feel we are on the go all of the time and get caught up in the hustle... Read More

Essential Oil Origin – What We Need To Know

September 27, 2016 4 Comments

Essential Oil Origin – What We Need To Know I was recently asked if the origin of an essential oil matters and if someone could grow any plant in their backyard, distill it and make their own essential oils. Also, is organic an absolute must or can a wild-crafted essential oil produce similar, or sometimes better therapeutic properties?  I will share my personal “two cents” on this topic, knowing that there are many schools of thought.   To start the dialogue let me begin by saying that these are not quite easy yes or no answers. When I first began my natural... Aromatherapy Allergy Busters

March 10, 2016

Allergies…are so annoying, right.  Physically, people can experience allergies to plants, pollen, chemicals and pets. Nutritionally, many people experience an “allergy” response when they eat certain foods or drink specific drinks. Emotionally, something or someone can be irritating us, or annoying us.  They can be triggered by one, two or all three situations. So why do we get allergies?  Well first, let’s distinguish between two types of allergies.  The first is what I call a “genetic allergy” or true allergy to a plant, food, pet, etc.  They are born with it and any contact with that trigger, can cause  major reaction such as... Holistic Aromatherapy Certification with JennScents Aromaversity

March 9, 2016 Leave your thoughts

I was reading through my business goals that I created when I first started my business close to 20 years ago.  One of the things I listed was for aromatherapy to become a household name.  Well, thanks to this ever-evolving industry, it is now become a house name.  How great is that? For many people, they know about essential oils and the effect they can have on enhancing our mood, promoting sleep, inspiring energy and calming a burn. What most people do not know, is that aromatherapy can also effect emotional health, tapping into the depths of why we are... Read More
