Helichrysum, the “wound healer”, is one of my absolutely favorite essential oils! It is a powerful healer of the mind, body and soul, especially when the wounds are deep. Think of PTSD, traumatic situations, severe and/or chronic cognitive deficits and scarring on the skin. Its heavy, hay-like floral, yet herby-earthy and green scent can hydrate and nourish skin, while penetrating and warming the depths of emotional scars.
Helichryum Plant Signatures
Helichrysum is a shrub that grows a little more than three feet high, with slender, leaf-like stems and a cluster of golden-yellow flowers that have a spongy appearance. The significance of the yellow flowers according to the Doctrine of Signatures indicate its affinity for gallbladder (bile), liver, welcoming, inviting, creativity and sunlight. Hence, it thrives best in full sun, and is not happy in the shade. Full-sun plants that do not thrive in shade, prefer to have the spotlight them and craving attention. They like to be heard and seen, and not be placed in the shadows. It is drought and semi-wind tolerant indicating it can withstand challenging times of deficiency (in physical, mental and emotional) health.
Helichrysum for Physical, Mental & Emotional Health
Helichrysum packs a powerful punch when it comes to benefits. It possesses analgesic, anti-inflammatory, hepatic (liver) and nervine (nerves) properties.
- Physically, it helps with combating bruising, chronic cough, poor circulation and hearing issues. It is a liver and gallbladder decongestion and a wonderful remedy for nerve pain such as neuropathy and sciatica.
- Mentally, I like to add it into blends for addictive issues (smoking, OCD, etc.), anxiety, indecision and to dispel negativity.
- Emotionally, I’ve found it to calm anger (even repressed anger), deep emotional wounds and scars, jealousy and stubbornness.
