Self-worth is a powerful emotion that can drive you up, or force you down. A healthy state of feeling worthy can propel you forward in life. It can inspire your dreams, fuel your creativity and invigorate your spirit. You can accomplish anything when you are confident, supported, secure in who you are, what you want, and where you want to go.

It’s like the old expression, “an object in motion stays in motion”. When you are surrounded by positivity, it fuels your own positivity, which then infects others around you with positivity. Therefore, positivity keeps paying forward. Until something stops it.

Think about those times in your life when you were at the top of your game. You were confident, strong and unstoppable. You knew your worth, demonstrated your worth and owned your worth.  You were proud to be you, and were your own hero.

How did that make you feel?

What led to that feeling of self-worth?

What can you do to achieve that feeling of being enough and worthy again?

Now think about times when you did not feel worthy. What was going on around you? It could have been a particular situation or circumstance. Or a pile-up of events that buried you down deep, and took you away from your true, authentic, productive self.

Sometimes the people around you don’t know the power of their words, and you let them tear us down. If they catch you on an off day, it can push you inward, to a dark place of unworthiness, or feeling unappreciated. It could be that you always do your best, do what is expected, go above and beyond your responsibilities to help others, but the feeling isn’t reciprocated. You are not recognized or honored for those commendable traits and for always being there. When no one shows up to be there for you, you take it personal. Thus, you feel you are worthless.


Am I worthy?

Worth is defined as “the sense of one’s own value or worth as a person; self-esteem; self-respect.” Being able to bring your skills and abilities to fruition to accomplish a task, is a great feeling. Knowing you contributed to something greater, is an incredible feeling. But when you are not recognized, put down, belittled, abandoned and dismissed, it can cause a toll on your heart and gut. It is hard not to be upset.

One thing I have learned is that you can’t expect others to respond the way you want them to. Some people have developed the skill to see the bigger picture, understand the power of what they say to others and how they say it. They think about the consequences of their actions before responding. They put themselves in other people’s shoes before responding to a situation. That is called wisdom and awareness. Others, may not have achieved that skill, or learned that skill. So, everyone involved needs to be mindful that each person is in a different place, with different tools. Instead of focusing on the negatives, we should be collaborating on creating positive, healthy relationships. Know, you are worthy.

Another key in strengthening your feelings of worth, is for YOU to value yourself. If you value yourself, you will lead with a confidence that exudes outward to inspire others to “see” and “feel” your worth. Don’t wait for someone else to validate your worth. YOU must do that first, then others will follow.


Feeling Worthless

An unhealthy state of feeling worthless or unworthy can lead to depression, anxiety, sadness, loneliness, grief and many other emotions. It can cause physical stress on your heart, lungs, circulation, nervous and glandular systems.  It can either speed up or slow down your eliminative organs. You may experience headaches, indecisiveness, confusion, mental confusion and lack of concentration. This is not healthy. Notice if you are experiencing any of these.  If you are, grab your essential oils to boost mood, your herbs to  nourish your body, and some friends or support group to have some fun.
