Custom Blending Basics Using Essential Oils

The concept of custom blending is not a new one. However, it is more popular than ever in this world of personalized health options.

Have you ever gone to a drink dispenser and combine maybe a little iced tea and lemonade?  Well, that is “custom” blending.

Or have you mixed in a variety of seasonings when you are cooking a specific dish?  That is also a form of custom blending.

When you choose a color scheme, pair more than two things together and match accessories to your clothing outfit, this is a type of customization (blending of colors, fabrics and themes).

The same philosophy applies with combining essential oils.  As with your goals in combining drinks, foods and clothing, you have to know what your purpose is along with your overall goal and desired outcome. From here, you will bring in your olfactory senses, scentillect (essential oil knowledge) and scenterpretation skills (essential oil meanings) to formulate and create a final custom blend masterpiece.

How amazing! Nature in action, at its best!

The benefits you get are far and wide. Simultaneously you can help your mind and body find balance.

3 Key Tips to Getting Started with Making a Custom Blend

  1. What is it you need help with? Define your purpose and then you will know which essential oils can help.
  2. What is your goal and desired outcome? Pain relief? Energy and motivation? Relaxation to calm anxiety? You have to know what you need in order to choose essential oils to combine wisely.
  3. What essential oils and carriers do you have on hand?

Bringing It Together

Gather your essential oils, carriers, bottles, and blending utensils. Create a nice blending area that you can formulate and combine your desired ingredients without distraction.

Decide on the proper dilution ratio to match the person you are making the blend for. Are they a child? elderly? pet? Adult with no sensitivities? Use this Dilution ratio chart to help you evaluate dilution sensitivities.

Fun, right?
